The MSFA Honor Guard is recruiting for new members, and re-engaging current members! Please get your application in ASAP! (APPLICATION DOWNLOAD AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE) The primary mission of the MSFA Honor Guard (HG) is to deploy in times of need to support current and past members, their families, and their departments at the member’s Last Alarm with the highest degree of professionalism, dedication, loyalty, honor, and dignity. In addition to funerals and memorial services, the HG may be called upon to post colors, march in parades, and participate in a variety of other community events. We participate in Local, State, and National events when requested to honor fallen firefighters and their families. The MSFA HG is a group of dedicated and trained individuals who, with the support of their fellow brothers, sisters, departments, and families, commit their time and energies in service to the greater good. It is imperative for the folks in your Local interested in joining the MSFA HG to FIRST gauge the support within their local department. It is only through local department support (eg. shift coverage) that this program works. The notice to deploy is always short (sometimes less than 24 hours), usually requires travel (sometimes overnight), and is almost never convenient to one’s plans. However, these small sacrifices and the presence and professionalism of the MSFA HG can make a family’s or department’s heavy load a little lighter on a tough day. Efforts are also underway to establish a Pipes and Drums corps to augment the MSFA HG, so if you have any interested bagpipers or percussionists in your Local, please encourage their participation as well. The MSFA provides all necessary uniforms and equipment for HG members, as well as per diem and travel reimbursement for sanctioned events. The application process for those interested in joining the MSFA HG is as follows:
Successful applicants will be notified on or before January 31, 2024. Successful applicants, as well as current HG members, will be required to attend an orientation and training, February 9-11, 2024, in Helena, MT, at which time new members will be measured for their Class A. The cost of this initial weekend process for new members will be at the expense of the Local or Department recommending the applicant. Any questions regarding this opportunity may be directed to F. Ray (contact information below). Ray Ruffatto, Director, MSFA Honor Guard 118 Buckhorn Trail Thank you for your interest in supporting the MSFA Honor Guard, and for your continued dedication to Montana’s Professional fire service.
